The Nakagin Tower is an architectural icon from the era of Metabolism. It is one of the last remnants of a utopian, yet affirmative approach to urbanism. Pia Bergerbusch and Philipp Hoening (MethLife) visited the Nakagin Capsule Tower several times in the past and brought back an unearthed archive of acoustic and visual recordings.

On the sad occasion of the demolition of the Nakagin Tower in Ginza, Tokyo, in April 2022 these materials are now published in a series of Tapes, as well as digital Editions.

Vol. 1 is a radioplay, spoken by Pia Bergerbusch, interwoven with MethLife´s music and field recordings. The text is an attempt to peel the different layers of existence a building like this has. It acts out the failed attempt to build a tower, that grows to a housing system, mutates into a district and mutates into a city in and of itself.
